New Writing Classes and Workshops
For writers who want to better their dialogue, atmosphere, and scene writing, I have several classes coming up over the next few months.
I recently taught a class on atmosphere that went over really well and the process to building the class was so fun, I decided I’d do it again and again and again. That class experience and getting a lot of emails about people not based in my area wanting to join the local writing group and workshop I run.
I built the South Whulge Speculative Fiction Writers Group based off my study into writing groups through history that helped writers get published and become better at their craft. Each of the critique and workshop sessions are designed to push past basic critiques and into critical critiques that help authors fix their stories.
That’s the same type of thinking and intention I put into designing my upcoming classes and workshops.
May Classes and Workshop
This May, I’ll be doing two classes hosted by me on Troubleshooting Scenes and a Writing Fiction Workshop. The scene class is a focused lecture on what scenes are and how to fix the issues that plague most scenes. There will be exercises for writers to use on their scenes after class as well to help bridge the lecture with what authors are actually creating.
The fiction workshop is a small group workshop where 5 writers bring their work to be critiqued by me and others to better their stories. There is a Q+A section at the end of the workshop if there is time where authors can ask me questions about writing, editing, publishing, and more.
June Classes and Workshops
In June, I’ll be doing two more classes, Crafting Dialogue and another Writing Fiction Workshop. The dialogue class is a generative writing class where I’ll teach authors about common and uncommon dialogue issues before leading the class in several generative deliberate writing practice exercises that will challenge authors to grow.
The fiction workshop is the same as it was in May. People can sign up for multiple workshops and classes if they want.
July Classes and Workshops
July will also have two classes, Crafting Atmosphere and another Writing Fiction Workshop. The atmosphere class is a an extension of my regular atmosphere class that has more exercises, prompts, and time for questions. Learn how to control your story’s atmosphere by learning the line and narrative level techniques to build atmosphere.
The fiction workshop call is the same as previous months and focuses on live critique of stories to help writers get valuable feedback on their stories.
For authors who want to work on their craft with me directly, you can sign up through my website on my classes and workshops page.
More Classes
I’ve got additional classes coming up over the next few months through different venues that I’ll share more about once I have dates, times, and signup links.
